Discover Iceland’s Blue Ice – Ice Cave Tour Update
Our Ice Cave Tour takes you to some of the most beautiful blue ice formations in Iceland, located on the west side of Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet of Vatnajökull, Iceland’s largest glacier. Depending on weather and glacier conditions, guests may explore one to three naturally formed blue ice features, offering an authentic and ever-changing Iceland ice cave experience. These formations are reached by a guided glacier walk, led by trained and experienced glacier guides.
The full ice cave tour lasts around 4 hours, occasionally 3.5 hours, depending on conditions and group pace. Walking distances vary, and your guide will select the safest and most scenic route for the day. All required glacier equipment—microspikes or crampons—is provided, depending on the type of blue ice feature accessed during your departure.
Important: Iceland’s ice caves are natural, dynamic structures shaped by winter conditions. For safety and operational reasons, the cave location, glacier route, or overall tour setup may change at the last minute due to weather, ice movement, or guide assessment. These adjustments ensure the safest and most rewarding blue ice cave tour possible.
Because the glacier is constantly changing, conditions—and therefore the experience—may look very different from one week to the next. We monitor the changes daily to ensure you see the best blue ice formations of what Vatnajökull has to offer each day, with safety as our top priority.
This update reflects current conditions, please note that this is the best half day accessible blue ice experience available in Vatnajökull National Park
We will update our website as well as our social media with new informations if any changes.

Itinerary
The Local Guide base is at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon (next to the Diamond Beach). It is located 370km east of Reykjavík, by the main highway road number 1. When driving the ring road you will see a big lagoon with floating icebergs, we are there at the main parking lot next to the cafeteria. We have our well marked, transportation vehicle parked at the
bus parking lot, where you will meet our guide.

Jökulsárlón Parking
Open in Google MapsPlease be at the meeting point at least 20 minutes before the departure time. In the wintertime, we would
actually advise it to be even earlier, as the parking area in Jökulsarlón tends to get busy and you need to also
make sure to purchase a parking slot for your vehicle before leaving for the tour with us.
Currently, in the area, you may find two parking areas, on both sides of the main highway road number 1 and
we are located by the Jökulsarlón Main Parking, see the map here.

make changes to your tour at the last minute. Please make every effort to check your email the night before your
tour as this will be our primary source of contact for you.
There is no need to print this ticket, please keep a copy on your phone for reference and give your name or
